It Was a KNIGHT to Remember

By October 3, 2018 No Comments

Wow! Our Third Annual Knight of Honor Gala was truly a knight to remember. It was an incredible evening filled with community, live entertainment, delicious food and drink, and plenty of heroes. It was our distinct honor and privilege to be able to recognize and award many of these heroes during our Knighting Ceremony at the event.

Did you know? We choose one Citizen Hero, six finalists to be knighted, and one Officer Gregory Alia Award Winner for a very specific reason that has a special meaning to us. These numbers and this specific order reflects Greg’s police call-sign, which was 1-6-1.

During our Knighting Ceremony, we recognized our Outstanding Citizen Hero: Mary Louise Resch of Harvest Hope Food Bank.

We are proud to recognize Mary Louise Reach as our 2018 Outstanding Citizen Hero. Passionate about doing whatever it takes to serve others, Ms. Resch embodies compassion and selflessness. In 2017, she ignited the vision for Greg’s Groceries, a program which provides police with the tools to be able to help people experiencing hunger. In just one year, 890 boxes of Greg’s Groceries have provided hope to families residing in over 40 food insecure zip codes. Ms. Resch has taken this program as an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with local law enforcement, responding to additional needs such as diapers, formula, and produce as they emerge. She is a champion for good and a true connector of police and community.

Over two dozen officers from around the state were nominated by a police or community leader for the 2018 Officer Gregory Alia Award. These are the heroes that you have read about on our blog over the last several weeks as we have shared their stories. Our selection committee, comprised of police and community leaders, selected the top 6 finalists for the award before selecting the winner.

The six finalists who were knighted and welcomed to our Round Table were:

Officer Alex Adkins
Officer Joe Czeladko
Patrol Officer Karen Devors
Deputy Deon Hardy
Sergeant Harold Philips
Patrolman First Class India Taylor

Our winner of the 2018 Officer Gregory Alia Award was Sergeant Peyton Sherwood. Congratulations again, Sergeant Sherwood! You can read more about him here.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Third Annual Knight of Honor Gala! It was a remarkable evening and we were thrilled to have everyone there with us.
